Reference to THOR in ‘The Incredible Hulk’ Movie!

Venkman Here with a geeked out discussion. This is only my opinion, but I think it is a good one that makes allot of sense. I was talking to my brother about ‘The Incredible Hulk’ movie and he mentioned something that I just didn’t think about while watching the movie, but now it makes total sense! You may remember this scene.

After the battle with Blonsky at the Campus Hulk and Betty end up in North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Betty wakes up in a cave during a massive thunder and lightning storm that came out of no where. The Hulk is staring down at Betty curiously and she screams. Hulk jumps and hits his head on the ceiling of the cave, she then starts to calm him down. Suddenly, lightning strikes and Hulk starts screaming at it, every time lightning struck Hulk would just get pissed off and yell at it at the top of his lungs he got so aggravated that he eventually threw a rock into the sky at the lightning.

I remember watching that scene and wondering why Hulk was getting so pissed off. The scene also lasted a good amount of time. Enough time to make a point. The point being that the lighting was caused by Thor and Hulks behavior is his recognition of Thor. There is a 5 year span that we don’t really know about before the the movie began, and there could have been a Thor and Hulk confrontation during that time. We don’t know but it would make sense. Hulk and Thor do have a history.

From what I understand from some research there is a point in the Marvel Universe where…

…Loki uses the Hulk as a lure to draw Thor out; while this proved successful, it results in the formation of the superhero team the Avengers, of which Thor is a founding and longstanding member.

This is just an observation but, this would make perfect sense for the Hulk to be a villain in the Avengers movie like Marvel has been talking about. The Hulk Vs. Thor Animated movie that is coming out is the story of Loki using Hulk to kill Thor. Maybe this all ties in. But in the end I think the Hulk yelling at the thunder and lightning storm is a reference to Thor.

What do you all think?

If this is true, I will be in geek heaven! I would love to see this fight on the big screen!

  2. MechaSolid on June 23rd, 08

Actually I didn’t take that scene in the same way at ALL. The Hulk isn’t exactly the brightest guy…I thought it was clear he was just getting mad because he saw the thunder and lightning as a threat. You know, because he’s DUMB (and awesome).

That being said, I do seem to remember at some point in a hospital or…SOMEwhere in the movie where the name Dr Donald Blake was mentioned. Dr. Donald Blake. MUCH clearer. I could be wrong, but I was pretty sure I heard it.

  3. MamboKING666 on June 25th, 08

I thought the same during that scene and also in the previous one when a sudden rain storm occurs to put out the fire caused by the chopper crash (when Hulk protects Betty). You could hear the crowd muttering ”Thor!”.

  4. udbenny on June 28th, 08

i think that scene was a done in respect to the first movie.

  5. Deliverance on June 28th, 08

The scene with the helicopter was clearer. It´s a bright day, lots of sunlight. The second the fire starts and the general screams No! thunder, lightning, rainfall…

Funny - I mentioned that to myu friends right after the movie - the fact that Hulk was:
    A) struck by lightning, in a scene that seemed out of place
    B) pissed off and threw a rock at the sky.

Most of my friends dismissed it, except for tyhe guy who is a huge Thor fan.

But I did notice that scene at the time and did not even think about the sudden rain storm part.
I could not agree more with your assessments.

Well I guess all these theories could be true, but thor doesn’t strike from behind and the hulks behavior is normal for his level of intellect. the lightning strike is not out of place and the hulk would be expected to throw something back if he felt he was struck from above. the fight will happen without any tidbits thrown at us. have faith. the first step is a thor movie which maybe will happen in 2010. see you there in spirit

OK LET GAVIN SAVE U ALL N DROP SUM KNOWLEDGE.

I BELIEVE THE THUNDER WAS A LIL HINT AT THOR BUT THATS NOT ALL. THE CAMPUS BANNER WAS ON WAS A CAMPUS KNOWN FOR SCIENCE N THE THOR MOVIE COMING UP IS BASED AROUND A COLLEGE STUDENT THAT STUDIES IN THE MEDICLE/SCIENCE FIELD.
ALSO IF YOU NOTICE A VERY WEIRD AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE CHANGE IN WHEATHER HAPPENED AZ SOON BETTY WAS PUT IN DANGER BY THE HELICOPTER EXPLODING, IT JUST RAINED OUTTOV NO WHERE! BRIGHT SKIES AND EVERYTHING!
ALSO THEY MENTION THE WEIRD WHEATHER ON THE NEWS STATION BANNER WAS WATCHING AFTER THE COLLEGE STUDENTS REVEALED THAT FOOTAGE FROM THEIR PHONES.
THE LIGHTNING HITTING HULK, I THINK DATS JUST THE DIRECTORS WAY OV SAYING EXPECT THOR (2010) AND JUST TO LEAD UP TO THE HULK ACTUALLY CHALLENGING THE MIGHTY THOR!

    good day

You really need to point out how the news caster was specific about the thunderstorm, “Further search for the mysterious Hulk was postponed by POWERFUL THUNDERSTORMS in the Smokey Mountain National Forest”.

Not relevant to THOR but did you all catch the reference to Jack Magee The annoying reporter who used to follow Bruce Banner in the original TV series of the HULK.

if you have the blu ray version of the movie, and you go frame by frame to 1:00:29:14 or 1:00:29:15, you will see the distictive shape of SOMEONE falling from the sky. unless the rock somehow changed it’s shape from being hurled by the hulk, this is definitely something else. check it out, and let me know what you think.

  11. Dr. Venkman on November 10th, 08

I am going to check that out eRRaTyC!

  12. The Mighty Simbian on November 16th, 08

There is definitely an object falling from the sky in the mountain scene, makes sense that they are alluding to Thor, dropping subtle suggestions.
I noticed also that when Hulk jumps out of the campus to face the soldiers (just before battle with Blonsky) and Ross you can see lightning above which is strange considering it was clear earlier in the scene.
