THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS – New Look At Practical Thing Suit Revealed Along with a Deleted Dating Scene

We finally have a good look at the practical suit used to bring The Thing to life in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and it's just as badass as fans were hoping.

While the final version of Ben Grimm in Earth-828 was handled through VFX, this impressive practical design was used during production for reference. Turns out, it wasn’t Ebon Moss-Bachrach inside the bulky rock-covered suit.

That honor goes to Richard Summers-Calvert, a professional wrestler and actor who just revealed behind-the-scenes shots and shared his experience embodying the legendary Marvel character.

Summers-Calvert shared, “I can finally announce that after 5 auditions (the last being in front of the director, his accent coach and his movement coach) I managed to end up in this absolutely epic suit helping portray The Thing in Fantastic 4.”

He went on to say, “For 7 months I sat in the tent next to the leads and got to pick their brains, I got to do performance passes alongside elite level actors, I aided the Mocap and VFX, I met immensely talented people and the coolest thing of all is that I got to be a part of a Make A Wish, which is something I will truly never forget.”

The whole experience was clearly unforgettable for him. “Insane experience, learnt tonnes and to embody The Thing and help bring him to life was an absolute honour…was real hot in there though… 🙂‍↕️🙌🏻 #BigBoy”

You can check out the photos on his Instagram below, and it’s a cool peek at the detailed craftsmanship that went into making this version of The Thing feel real.
